Privacy Policy
Last updated October 25, 2026
The short version
- We collect only what Terrela needs to work: your account details, your first name, and what you write.
- Your journal entries are private to your account. We don't sell your information, show ads, or use tracking or advertising tools.
- Your profile photo and reminder settings stay on your device.
- You can export everything you've written, or delete your account and entries, at any time in the app.
Who we are
Terrela is a gratitude journaling app for iPhone and iPad, made by Connor Morgan ("Terrela", "we", "us"). This policy explains what information Terrela collects, how it's used and protected, and the choices you have. It applies to the Terrela app and to terrela.app.

What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details. Your email address and a password (stored only in a securely hashed form, never in plain text). If you continue with Apple or Google instead, we receive your name, your email address (or, with Apple, a private relay address if you choose "Hide My Email"), and an account identifier from them. We never see your Apple or Google password.
- Your first name, so Terrela can greet you. You can change it anytime in Account.
- Your journal entries: the lines you write, anything you add under "Anything else on your mind?", the date, and the question you wrote under.
- Feedback you send from Account → Share feedback: your message and the email address you include, so we can reply.
Information that stays on your device
- Your profile photo. If you add one, it's saved only on your device and never uploaded.
- Reminders. Daily reminders are scheduled by your device. Your reminder time isn't sent to us.
- Your settings, such as your theme and Light or Dark mode.
- A copy of your entries, so Terrela opens quickly and works offline. It's removed from the device when you log out.
Information collected automatically
When the app talks to our servers, the companies that host them keep standard technical records, such as IP address, the time of the request and basic device and app information, for security, preventing abuse and keeping the service running. Terrela doesn't include analytics, advertising or tracking tools, and doesn't track you across other apps or websites.
How we use your information
- To create and secure your account and let you sign in on your devices.
- To save your entries and show them back to you: on Today and Calendar, in looking back, and in suggestions drawn from what you've written before. These suggestions are worked out on your device from your own entries.
- To send account emails you need, such as confirming your email address or resetting your password.
- To read and reply to feedback you send.
- To keep Terrela secure, fix problems, and meet legal obligations.
We don't read your journal entries, except where it's needed to keep the service secure, to investigate a problem you've asked us to help with, or where the law requires it. We don't use your entries for advertising, and we don't sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
Who helps us run Terrela
We use a small number of trusted providers to run Terrela. They process information only on our behalf and to provide their service:
| Provider | What they do | Information involved |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Hosts Terrela's accounts and database | Account details, first name, journal entries, feedback |
| Resend | Sends account emails (confirmation and password reset) | Your email address |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, if you choose it; App Store | What you share when signing in |
| Sign in with Google, if you choose it | What you share when signing in |
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect the safety, rights or property of our users or others, or as part of a merger or sale of Terrela, in which case this policy would continue to protect your information.
Where your information is stored
Your account and entries are stored on Supabase's servers in the United States. Information is encrypted in transit between your device and our servers, and encrypted at rest by our hosting provider. If you live outside that country, your information is transferred there to provide the service.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and entries for as long as you have a Terrela account. When you delete your account, your account, first name and entries are deleted from our database straight away. Copies may remain in our provider's secure backups for a short time (usually no more than 30 days) before they are overwritten. Feedback messages are kept for as long as they're useful for improving Terrela, and you can ask us to delete them.
Your choices and rights
- See and export your entries: Account → Export my entries (PDF or plain text).
- Change your name: Account → Edit.
- Delete your account and everything you've written: Account → Delete my account.
- Turn off reminders: Account → Reminders, or in your device's Settings.
- Stop using Apple or Google sign-in with Terrela through your Apple or Google account settings.
Depending on where you live (for example the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or California), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or get a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict certain uses, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Email hello@terrela.app and we'll respond within 30 days. We don't sell or "share" personal information as those terms are defined in California law. Where the law requires a legal basis, we rely on providing the service you asked for, our legitimate interest in keeping Terrela secure, and your consent where we ask for it.
Children
Terrela isn't intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Security
We use encryption in transit, securely hashed passwords, and access rules so that each account can read only its own entries. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and will let you know if a breach affects you, as the law requires.
Changes to this policy
If we make changes, we'll update the date at the top. If the changes are significant, we'll let you know in the app or by email before they take effect.
